Introduction to Eyelid Surgery

Get refreshed & youthful-looking eyes with Blepharoplasty

You can tell a lot of things about looking into a person’s eyes, but one thing you shouldn’t be able to guess is someone’s age. When the face begins to show signs of aging, the eyes are one of the first places sagging tissue will be seen. The lax skin and fine, crepe paper winkling can add years to one’s appearance. The face may take on a sad, exhausted, and unhealthy look. As the eyes are often the focal point of the facial features, these early signs of aging are immediately noticeable to others. Our Philadelphia eyelid surgery will help patients look younger and can even correct vision problems if your upper eyelids are obstructing your line of sight.

Expensive makeup and eye creams may claim to work small miracles, but the only way to restore a youthful appearance is through a surgical procedure called Blepharoplasty, also known as Eyelid Surgery.

What is a Blepharoplasty?

Let’s start with the basics

As we age, the delicate skin around the eye begins to lose its shape and sinks downward. Not only does this result in wrinkles, but the drooping tissue may even impair the vision. The muscles and fatty tissue under the lower eyelid can slowly untether from their youthful position, forming ‘bags’ under the eyes. Shadows from this puffy or sunken tissue can cause the appearance of dark circles under the eyes. A Blepharoplasty is designed to smooth and lift the tissues of the upper and lower eyelids. After the procedure, the eyes will look refreshed and rejuvenated. Years will be immediately taken off of the appearance. As the excess skin is removed and the remaining tissue is tightened, the eyes will once again look open and awake.
